40 standards of safety and health at work

According to the International Labour Organization (ILO) 2,02 millions of people die every year due to diseases and accidents at work. The data continue and reach figures of 317 millions of people who suffer from work-related diseases. Because of these problems is estimated the loss of the 4 percent of global annual GDP.

The ILO has adopted more than 40 standards that specifically address the safety and health at work (SST) , as well as more than 40 codes of practice.

Employers have to deal with costly early retirements, a loss of qualified personnel, absenteeism and high insurance premiums, due to work-related accidents and diseases. However, many of these tragedies are preventable through the implementation underway of the regulations proposed by the ILO, as a preventive measure, making use of the information and inspection practices.

Workers and their representatives should receive information and training on the safety measures to be taken. It is important that there is a good relationship between the workers and their representatives, order to ensure a good implementation of safe work practices.

In addition, MNEs should maintain a maximum level of safety and hygiene, in accordance with the national requirements, taking into account the experience gained in this respect throughout the company, including any knowledge of special hazards, as it exposes the ILO.
